Anantara Angkor Resort Review: A Luxury Base for Exploring Angkor Wat

If you’re looking for the best luxury hotels near Angkor Wat, Anantara Angkor Resort is one of the top choices in Siem Reap. Located just 15 minutes from the ancient temple, it combines easy access to Siem Reap’s temples with a relaxing resort experience. 

One of my favourite things about a hotel is when it embraces its surroundings, and the Anantara does this beautifully. The design draws inspiration from Khmer architecture and the nearby temples, creating a sense of place from the moment you arrive. 

From the moment you arrive, the Anantara sets the tone for your stay. Guests are welcomed with refreshing arrival drinks, a traditional foot ritual, and a beautiful scarf. It was a thoughtful introduction to Cambodian hospitality.

Rooms at Anantara Angkor Resort

The rooms at Anantara Angkor Resort are spacious with a king-size bed. Each suite comes with a balcony with chairs overlooking the pool area. We got upgraded to the premier suite which includes a separate room for the bath.

I loved the design of the rooms as I felt they incorporated Khmer design while still creating a contemporary room. Which really helped immerse us into the atmosphere of Siem Reap.

The Anantara Angkor Resort offers a range of facilities:

• Courtyard and Saltwater Pool – The courtyard features a beautiful saltwater pool surrounded by comfortable sunbeds, providing the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring Siem Reap.

• Fitness Centre – A small but well-equipped gym with both cardio machines and weights.

• Hotel Boutique – The on-site shop offers a selection of local gifts and souvenirs.

• Anantara Spa – The spa provides a range of treatments inspired by Khmer traditions, including the popular Khmer Massage and Kampot Salt Scrub. Guests can also enjoy the sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi for a truly relaxing experience.

• Tuk Tuk Transfer Service – The resort offers a convenient tuk tuk transfer service, making it easy for guests to explore Siem Reap and travel comfortably between the hotel and local attractions.

One thing I always appreciate is when a hotel makes it easy to plan your stay, and the Anantara does exactly that. Their website features a comprehensive guide to everything there is to see and do in Siem Reap, along with the wide range of experiences and tours they offer.

We found the tours to be more expensive than booking through platforms such as Viator or GetYourGuide. However, the organisation, service, and overall experience were excellent. Everything was seamlessly arranged, from transport to knowledgeable guides.

Food and Drink at Anantara Angkor Resort: Restaurants and Bars

Breakfast

Breakfast is served daily at Chi restaurant, with a buffet offering fresh fruits, cereals, yogurts, pastries and juices, alongside an extensive à la carte menu. I highly recommend trying the Cambodian Turmeric Crepes which were the highlight of my breakfast experience. 

The food is consistently delicious, and the attentive, friendly service makes breakfast a wonderful way to start the day. Breakfast was included in our room rate.

Chi - Lunch and Dinner

Chi also serves lunch and dinner, offering an excellent mix of Western favourites and authentic Cambodian cuisine.

For those wanting to taste local flavours, Chi offers dishes such as Soup Ko Wat Damnak Beef Noodle and Baked Knob Trei In Banana Leaf. If you prefer familiar classics, the menu also includes options such as Caesar salad, pizzas, and other international dishes, ensuring there's something for everyone. .

Salt - Poolside dining and drinks

For a more relaxed dining experience, Salt offers poolside food and drinks, making it the perfect spot to enjoy lunch without leaving your sun lounger.

The menu features light bites including fresh salads, pizzas, wraps, and tortillas, alongside a refreshing selection of cocktails, soft drinks, and chilled beverages. 

Road 6 Bar and Lounge

The resort's Road 6 Bar & Lounge is the perfect place to unwind in the evening. Its signature cocktail menu is inspired by the local area, with creations such as The Twelve Temples, celebrating Siem Reap's famous temples, and The Sacred Stone Wall.

The bar also serves an excellent range of snacks and small plates, including Chive Gyoza Pit Stop and the adventurous Crossing Fried Coconut Cricket, offering guests the chance to sample a unique Cambodian delicacy.

Designer Dining at the Anantara Angkor Resort in Siem Reap

The Anantara Angkor Resort offers a unique dining experience that combines traditional Cambodian culture with exceptional food and service.

We opted for the traditional Apsara dance performance alongside the five-course tasting menu with wine pairings, and it was one of the highlights of our time in Cambodia.

The show is truly amazing, with incredibly talented performers bringing Cambodian history and culture to life through music and dance. The hotel goes to great lengths to create a beautiful and intimate setting, making the entire evening feel very special. Each course was thoughtfully prepared and perfectly paired with wine, showcasing both local flavours and refined culinary techniques.

It is certainly a more luxurious experience, but if you're looking for a memorable evening in Siem Reap, it is well worth it.

We found the Anantara Angkor Resort to be perfectly located for our stay. Situated just outside the centre of Siem Reap, it offered a peaceful retreat while being conveniently close to the area’s main attractions.

Getting around

Tuk-tuks are a convenient, affordable, and popular way to get around Siem Reap.

The Anantara's own tuk-tuk service is excellent, with drivers readily available throughout the day to take you wherever you need to go. 

Service at Anantara Angkor Resort

The service at the Anantara was exceptional. The staff went above and beyond to learn about our itinerary, taking the time to ask about our plans each day and genuinely check in on how our experiences had been. It was such a thoughtful touch and made the stay feel incredibly personal. 

Throughout our trip, we wanted for nothing. Every member of staff we encountered was warm, kind, and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere that truly enhanced our experience.

I would also like to highlight the General Manager, who made a genuine effort to speak with us during our stay and shared thoughtful recommendations that added to our time in Siem Reap.

Is Anantara Angkor Resort Worth It?

Absolutely.

Although Anantara Angkor Resort is more expensive than many hotels in Cambodia, I genuinely felt the experience justified the price.

The combination of exceptional service, beautiful Khmer-inspired design, outstanding food, luxurious facilities and peaceful atmosphere makes it one of the best places to stay in Siem Reap.

If you're visiting Cambodia for a special occasion, honeymoon or simply want to enjoy a luxury stay while exploring Angkor Wat, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Anantara Angkor Resort.
