Six Senses resorts have been my ultimate obsession for the past few years. I’ve been dying to experience one for myself. So when I was planning my trip to Cambodia and discovered there was a Six Senses there, I couldn’t have been more excited.

Six Senses Krabey Island is one of Cambodia’s most luxurious resorts, offering stunning pool villas, exceptional dining and incredible service. After spending several nights here, I can confidently say it exceeded my already high expectations and ranks among the best luxury resorts I have stayed at in Southeast Asia.

From beginning to end, the entire experience felt luxurious. On arrival, we were welcomed at the jetty and made completely comfortable while waiting for our transfer. Then, once on board, we were whisked away to a stunning private island, home to the incredible Six Senses resort.

Review Summary

My Rating - 9/10

Official Star Rating - 5 Stars

Price Range - Ultra Luxury (heavily dependent on the season, in the dry season £800 +)

Location - Private Island of Sihanoukville

Best for - Romantic stays (honeymooners and couples)

Highlights:

  • The villas are incredible and are massive and well-decorated.

  • Amazing private pool with every villa.

  • Private island that feels like Jurassic Park

  • Excellent food and cocktails

  • Great GEM service

The cons to this hotel are:

  • The beach is quite small, and the water is not particularly clear, but we found that the villas and the islands' flora and fauna made up for it.

Rooms at Six Senses Krabey Island

Collage of Six Senses Krabey Island Villas. Lots of space and a private pool. Floor to ceiling windows.

The villas are undoubtedly the standout feature of Six Senses Krabey Island.

We stayed in the entry-level category (The Hideaway Villa), which offered exceptional privacy and seclusion. The villas are huge and come with a large private pool, an outdoor shower, a deck area with sunbeds and a table, a generous lounge area, a bedroom with a grand emperor-sized bed, and a huge bathroom complete with a bathtub and natural shower.

The room is gorgeously decorated and has floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the space with natural light.

The villas are so comfortable and thoughtfully designed that many guests prefer to spend most of their time relaxing by the pool and dining in-villa.

For us, the villa was easily the highlight of the entire stay.

Hotel Tours at Six Senses Krabey Island

The Six Senses Krabey Island offers a large number of experiences if you want to explore a bit more of Cambodia.

These included:

  • Picnic on a secluded beach

  • Island Hopping around other local islands

  • Kayaking around a local mangrove

  • A visit to the town of Kampot, which is famous for its pepper plantations.

Food and Drink at Six Senses Krabey Island

The food and drink at Six Senses Krabey Island were incredible. Before arriving, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was genuinely impressed by the quality, variety, and overall dining experience throughout our stay. We had breakfast included, while lunch and dinner were separate. Although food and drink prices were notably higher than elsewhere in Cambodia, I thought they were fair, considering it was a private island.

Breakfast - AHA

Breakfast was served daily at Aha and was incredible.

  • An extensive buffet featuring fresh fruit, pastries, and smoothies.

  • A la carte menu alongside buffet, featuring cooked dishes such as French toast

  • Everything was beautifully presented and delicious

  • The breakfast wrap with scrambled eggs and salsa was a standout.

Lunch - Double Dip

Double Dip is the relaxed lunch spot by the pool.

  • Menu items include fresh wraps, pizza and lighter options ideal for a midday meal.

  • Double Dip also serves complementary ice cream

Dinner - Aha and Tree

Dinner alternates between Aha and Tree, giving plenty of variety throughout your stay.

Aha:

  • The resort's main restaurant has stunning ocean views.

  • Offers a broad menu featuring Western, Pan-Asian and international dishes.

  • We ordered the fish one evening, which was cooked perfectly and full of flavour.

Tree:

  • A beautiful restaurant set amongst the trees, creating a jungle setting.

  • Feels immersed in nature, especially after dark.

  • Focuses more on traditional Cambodian cuisine and local flavours.

  • My partner had a dish here that was absolutely incredible. Unfortunately, we can’t remember the name, but it was the waiter’s recommendation, so it’s definitely worth asking for their suggestions.

Drinks - Sunset Bar

The Sunset Bar is the island's only bar, and it quickly became one of our favourite spots.

  • Fantastic location for watching the sunset over the ocean. Highly recommend watching the sunset at least once during your trip.

  • Excellent cocktail menu with a variety of cocktails.

  • Drinks were well-made, and the bar had a relaxed atmosphere.

Location at Six Senses Krabey Island

Six Senses Krabey Island is a private island resort just 10 minutes by boat from the mainland. The nearest airport, Sihanoukville International Airport, is only a 10-minute drive from Six Senses jetty, while Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh, is a two-and-a-half-hour drive away.

The hotel is located on a beautiful tropical island surrounded by lush vegetation and wildlife. While the water is not crystal clear and the beach is relatively small, neither detracted from our experience. We felt the island's flora and fauna made up for it.

Service at Six Senses Krabey Island

The service at Six Sesnes Krabey Island is exceptional. Included in your villa is a Gem (guest experience manager). We have been to hotels with Gems before, and this is the first one where you truly build a relationship and feel as though that your gem is with you throughout your whole stay. Our gem was Jing, who was incredible and added super-thoughtful touches throughout our stay.

Your gem will arrange all activities and transport; all you need to do is show up and enjoy the experience. All the staff are incredible and super happy to have a chat.

Is Six Senses Krabey Island Worth It?

In my opinion, absolutely! While Six Senses Krabey Island does come at a premium price tag, it delivers an experience that truly feels special. The combination of luxurious private pool villas, exceptional service, outstanding dining, and the unique private island creates a level of relaxation that is difficult to find elsewhere.

Six Senses Krabey Island is a resort I would wholeheartedly recommend.
